Top 8 Restaurants Onboard Carnival Sunrise

The Lido has some small standalone kiosks that deserve mention in their own right. Fans of Asian cuisine keep the Mongolian Wok busy during lunch; expect to wait 45 minutes or more (we really wish Carnival Magic would keep this open through dinner). Fans of spicy Indian food will want to make a stop at Tandoor, outside the door near the aft Tides Pool; we particularly enjoyed the clay-pot chicken and pea masala.

I tried the newest ships from Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Norwegian. Here’s how they compare

On Carnival Ecstasy, the Alchemy Bar was located outside of the Starlight Lounge. You could tell the bar was added during some phase of refurbishment given its odd placement near the staircase, but it was still nice to have it as an option. We ordered a variety of items to sample, including the signature 12-hour french toast and skillet-cake.

Meet the Dr. Seuss characters for phot opportunities and the innovative menus will have your kids wanting to come back for more. The Seafood Shack is a great place to grab a quick bite and get a taste of the sea. Whether it's a fish sandwich, a seafood salad or a seafood platter – the Seafood Shack is the place to be and is opened for lunch and dinner. During the day (10 AM to 6 AM), various items are available at a la carte prices. Selections include salads, sandwiches, wings, desserts, and more. An additional 18% gratuity will be added to each order as well.

— with fan-favorite Carnival cornerstones now being joined by innovative selections from Emeril Lagasse and our chefs. New choices like Pappardelle with Braised Lamb, Coffee Glazed Roast Duck and Hawaiian Shrimp Poke are sure to please, to be honest… almost every palate. That’s why Carnival’s new vegan dining room menu is so important to making sure everyone finds food they love. Look for plant-based options like Baked Vegetable Au Gratin, Eggplant Cutlet a la Parmigiana — and even modified versions of Hawaiian Salmon Poke and Spaghetti Carbonara! Our chefs always work to accommodate dietary needs, but this menu puts delicious choices front-and-center. When making dining reservations, it’s important to book early, especially for specialty restaurants, to secure your desired dining times.

What’s Cruise Casual?

Either way, the tacos hit the spot and were perfectly sized for a poolside snack. During our 4-night cruise, I had two really good experiences with BlueIguana Cantina. This was the first place I decided to eat when we boarded the ship, as the chicken tacos were calling my name while we were walking around the pool deck.

Relocated to Deck 17 above the Lido deck, Guy’s Burger Joint serves up some of the best burgers at sea. In partnership with Guy Fieri, this poolside shack features fresh off the grill burgers and fries with a toppings bar for you to customize your meal to perfection. On Cruise Elegant nights, the main dining room menu switches to American Feast. The "feast" is a lively celebration during which time the captain and crew are introduced. Dine at The Chef’s Table and enjoy a VIP cruise dining experience like no other. A truly memorable multicourse dinner is hosted by the Master Executive Chef, followed by a tour of the galley!

Specialty Dining

The cruise line indicates that they don’t foresee changing this any time soon. Further, across all of the Carnival Cruise Line ships, extra entrees in the main dining room are an upcharge. Guests may continue to order a second complimentary entrée if they choose; however, a third entrée will now incur a $5 charge. Once again, the dinner menu at this restaurant rotates each evening like most cruise lines offering a wide array of starters, entrees, and desserts. From regaling tales of the fun and activities onboard the cruise ship, to the various places they visited in the Caribbean, a fun cruise certainly fills people with plenty of good memories.

Onboard Celebrations

Roger is the Carnival pianist who was keeping the crowd entertained all night. I was surprised by the quality of food served at the Carnival Deli. It was much better than I anticipated - and way better than the deli we had on campus back in college. Service was a little slow and the line was long, which indicates that it’s a favorite among everyone. I tried the Dirty Mojito, which had spiced rum and brown sugar. My sister had the Red Rum’s Treasure, which was the most popular drink at the bar according to the bartenders.

We ended up with a cheese slice and a garlic cheese slice, which was fine. Since it was so expensive for one drink ($17 after tip) and I didn’t have a drink package, I didn’t make another trip back to the bar. Hopefully on a future Carnival cruise, I can sample some of the other delicious sounding cocktails.

Side dishes on order include mac and cheese, creamed spinach, baked potato, ratatouille, broccoli with carrots and onions or French fries. Journey across Italy, immersing yourself in a world of flavors and unparalleled service as you explore and savor the country's unique and traditional specialties. Creatively crafted to offer regional collections across each part of the menu - all note diverse regions of Italy where they are most known. The menu will also feature signature dishes, called “Favorito” entrees.

However, food was about average, with no real standouts or misses. A typical menu might include starters like prosciutto ruffles, shrimp cocktail, beet carpaccio, cannelloni, cream of broccoli soup and minestrone. A more adventurous food item, like braised ox tail or escargot, is also offered.

Sit down to a truly fantastical feast which features fun and unique menus. The unique menu includes ‘Green Eggs and Ham’, brightly colored fruit, gravity-defying pancake stacks, funky French toast, ‘Moose Juice’ ‘n’ ‘Goose Juice’… and much more. Popular Dr. Seuss characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2 will join guests for fun interactions and one-of-a-kind photo opportunities. Your meal includes every appetizer on the menu, including teppanyaki shrimp with soy butter and pork belly yakitori.

I only wish the menu was easier to understand for making quicker, better informed decisions with fewer acronyms. I also went to BlueIguana on the last morning of our cruise to have a breakfast burrito because I had heard multiple people talking about how good they were. I filled mine with ham, egg, cheese, skillet hash browns, onions and sour cream in a warm tortilla. I especially appreciated how quickly my burrito was served, as the buffet nearby had a huge line. On a recent cruise aboard Carnival Ecstasy, I was surprised to see most of Carnival’s signature venues available.

Trying to get to the Destiny Restaurant was a challenge in itself because the galley is situated between the two main dining rooms, thus blocking the flow of traffic. The restaurant has a center stairwell that leads to the Rotterdam Martini Bar, so cruisers can grab a drink before -- or after -- dinner before descending to the Destiny Restaurant. Both dining rooms are only one floor, so you don't have that elegant, grand feeling with high ceilings as you sometimes find on other ships. In total, there are 9 free restaurants and 5 for-fee options on Carnival Magic. Restaurant menus range from Mongolian to pizza and steakhouse and pub favorites.

The great thing about a cruise is that most things are inclusive and that covers most of your dining experiences. So leave your wallet behind and check out what is included in the price of your family cruise. Cooked in a traditional clay oven, Masala Tiger serves up a wide variety of signature Indian delights that are uniquely spiced as well as an array of vegetarian options made from fresh produce. A poolside dining venue, open for breakfast and lunch, serving burritos (breakfast burritos in the morning) and tacos with a variety of toppings, fillings and salsas.

But the fun doesn't stop there, you will be entertained with several dishes presented as playful "food faces" that will be Instagram-worthy pieces of art. There is a fee of $49 per adult and $13 per child 11 and under (when ordering from the Kids' menu, available upon request). The fee includes a starter, entrée, dessert and the wait staffs’ gratuity; additional gratuities may be extended at the guest's discretion. The fee does not include any beverage that is normally ordered through bar service such as wine, liquor, soda and bottled water.
